Budding Artists Budding Artists
is a free art class for children ages 3-18 with an adult (sometimes
called “Mommy and Me") that aims to provide the students with
experiences in different art media such as ceramics, painting, collage,
sculpture, charcoal, pastels, and others. Each class includes some art
history, usually a brief summary of an artist’s life or work,
instruction in the day’s project, and the majority of the time is spent
actually doing art. All supplies are provided by Evergreen Church.
Budding Artists is now in its sixth year. The applied art classes are organized and taught by Amy Lewis, whose entire family is artistic. She has taken only a few art classes herself but enjoys many different forms of art and sometimes uses these classes as an excuse to do more. It is our desire to share the love of art and help others to understand our creative Creator, as we were all designed in His image. At the end of the Creative Art session, there is an art show, displaying each student’s artwork in a gallery-type format, and there are refreshments and a musical guest. Parents and friends are invited to view the class’s art work, Stephen Lewis talks for a few minutes about how we look at art, and at the end students go home with all of their work from the class, ready to decorate their parents’ walls. Some Budding Artists sessions are focused on music. These are taught by Stephen Lewis, who plays piano. He also played the trumpet and taught lessons in his youth. The classes include warm-up time, instruction in music theory, guest musicians, folk songs, “creative movement,” and new songs that all challenge the students' musical abilities. The next class will convene in Summer 2008. The class will include drawing, painting, working with clay, guest artists, and more. Call 503.371.1177 for more information or for future dates. |
